Collar Tips
If you’ve been following me on Instragram, you’ve probably seen a lot of hints and models for collar tips for the last little bit. They’re finally here!
The original concept came from my mother, who found a pair of vintage collar tips in her things and thought they would be a great thing to bring back. She was thinking specifically of butch women and to me, it was a perfect idea to adapt for butch, genderqueer and gender-noncomforming masc folks who may not enjoy jewelry but want options for adornment.
The vintage pair had screws threaded through a plate to keep the tip on your collar, but I didn’t like the fact that you could damage the shirt if they were over-tightened. I thought about a pin-back fix, but it was awkward to put on and again, had the possibility of damaging the fabric.
In the end I settled on magnets! There’s one maget attacked to the collar tip, and one in the bar that fits on the back. On thicker shirts the bar is enough of a tension fit to keep them on and for thinner materials the magnets are perfect. As long as they’re kept clean they won’t leave a mark even on light shirts.
It’s been a real process to figure out all the steps and make sure they were something I could produce and I’m happy to be able to offer them now. There’s another style coming soon, but you’ll have to wait and see it!
