a psuedomorph; a tree, buried in hot ash, may erode away and leave behind a textured negative, which can be refilled over time by groundwater depositing minerals into it; the resulting form is a mineral with the shape and texture of a tree’s limb
the artist —
bel duffy has a BA from the University of Oregon, with a major in Art and a minor in Creative Writing, and an MFA from Mills College in Book Art & Creative Writing. They taught courses in letterpress printing at the Oregon College of Art and Craft from 2014 until its closure in 2019 and are a founding member of the Portland, Oregon based New New Collective. Their passions have always been process and material exploration, especially the possible relationships between metal and paper. Currently they are focusing their energies on the design and creation of gender-affirming jewelry for nonbinary and genderqueer folks.
